I was pondering what to write about today and I felt to encourage you not to go it alone.
Sometimes you experience hurt by the people you consider friends or family. Because it trauma is so deep, it can become really tempting to cut everyone off and try to do it all on your own.
I want to ask you to reconsider.
As human beings we were designed for family and healthy relationships, so that we can help each other.
So when we experience betrayal it is completely understandable that we’d want to run in the opposite direction.
Nevertheless, cutting yourself off from everyone will not help you to heal. You may need some time alone to process, please do that. But allow someone you know you can trust to support you through it.
“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together” – African Proverb
The question is do you want to go fast or do you want to go far?
Choosing to go fast for a little while to get to a specific goal is fine. Turn off social media, cut back on the text and calls.
However, I would advise finding someway of holding on to the connection you have with family and friends.
If you don’t, in the long term, you may find yourself isolated and lonely. Which opens the door to depression; no one wants depression as a friend.
Don’t get me wrong, not everyone around you will be cheering for you to succeed and it’s your job to distance yourself from those people.
We are all unique and sometimes our differences are greater than what connects us. That simply means those people are not the ones you are to walk in close relationship with.
But the genuine friendships and family connections you have, do your best to nurture them. Life is a lot more fun when lived in good, healthy community.
