Love and Laughter

Good day beautiful family!

Last year I did a get to know me’ post and I mentioned doing a blog post about laughter.

It didn’t feel like it was the right time until now, so here it is!

Over the last few weeks I have been having some real quality belly laughs. They felt sooo Good!!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I smile a lot! And I laugh quite often. But I hadn’t had a good, haughty, belly laugh like that in a while.

The funniest thing was the jokes weren’t even that funny.

One was about the host on a call muting everyone else, then asking why they couldn’t hear anyone. Just thinking about it now sets me off, hahaha!!

The topic of laughter and joy seemed to just be following me.

I was listening to a training video and the person being interviewed shared that their doctor gives his patients ‘laughing prescriptions’.

He shared that people with serious medical issues prolonged their lives by finding things to laugh and be joyful about.

Then, I was reading an email and the person mentioned that they had lost a friend unexpectedly and nothing made sense of a while.

They realised they needed to get their joy back and they started to give what they needed most; Love, Hope, Encouragement.

They started to give encouraging messages and some cash to people around their city.

I thought that was so powerful because receiving that level kindness from a stranger; especially when you’re down does something wonderful inside your soul.

Even thinking about it makes me feel all soppy inside.

Storytime:

I was on at waiting on my bus home from work a few years ago and I saw this lady. I started to notice that she would be on the same bus as me if I left work at a particular time {in a non stalking way lol}.

I felt to encourage her so I wrote her a little note, folded it and put ‘For You’ on the front {see below}.

I handed it to her as I was getting off the bus. I was sweating and nervous because I wasn’t sure how she would react, or if she would even take it.

She was a little hesitant but she took it. I expected that to be the extent of our interaction with each other and I felt so happy inside.

I actually saw her again a few days, maybe a week later on the bus and we waved to each other. She handed the paper back to me as she was leaving the bus.

At first I was disheartened because I thought she didn’t want it. I had the most awesome surprise when I opened it up.

I was almost in tears, I was so touched by her response.

We saw each other a few more times and we talked which was nice. I haven’t seen her since, but I carry that note in my purse all the time.

Even in writing this, I thought about those who think their life doesn’t have an obvious purpose. I struggled with for a long time.

I wanted to know what my ‘life’s purpose’ was, that ‘one thing‘ that I was created to do. The ‘thing‘ that would make my whole life make sense.

I believe the answer to that question is to become Love.

How can you give to someone else what you feel you need yourself? Or how can you fulfil a need someone else has?

While you’re working that job you do or don’t like, what are simple ways you can brighten another person’s day?

Are you able to help someone to carry heavy grocery bags? Can you have a conversation with someone who is feeling lonely? *socially distanced and all that jazz if in person*

Can you share a smile with someone who looks down? Can you share a joke to make them laugh?

There are so many simple ways to show up in life on purpose. You’d be surprise to see how those simple acts of kindness can go a long way.

I know I took a semi diversion half way through the post but I truly believe that when we look at how we can become love instead of searching for this infamous ‘purpose’ you’ll find your way there.

Feel free to share this post with anyone who needs it.

Lots of love and big hugs,

Sandj xoxo
