30 Lessons I’ve learnt in 30 years – Part 3

Beautiful Friends & Fam!

How are you? Let me know in the comments

It’s been fun sharing the lessons I’ve learnt throughout my life time with you. Thank you for tracking with me.

This will be the last post but by no means least. I hope you enjoy this one.

30 Things I’ve learnt in 30 years | Lesson 21-30

  1. Forgive Them

I know for some this will be easy and for others a lot harder, but it’s possible to do.

There have been friends, family members, teaches, strangers, etc that I’ve had to forgive and let go of the issue.

The most surprising people I have had to forgive are my parents. This  discovered while in a counselling session.

They did a good job raising my siblings and I. They sacrificed a lot which I’ve only realised now I’m older. That does not change the fact that some of the things they did or didn’t do affected me negatively. I had to forgive them for those things, I’m glad I did.

  1. Adulting sucks sometimes

Yup, I said it!
I don’t know about you but when I was younger, I couldn’t wait to be ‘grown’, it looked like fun and I’d have more control over my own life.

Now that I am of ‘grown’ status, I have come to realise that being a child is a lot more fun! lool I try to strike a good balance between being childlike (not childish) and a responsible adult.

Being an adult can be very demanding, challenging and overwhelming at times. But it’s all a part pf life and growth. Well done for getting this far, you’re going great!

  1. Everyone has their own story/journey – don’t be ashamed of yours

There are those who wish to keep up with the proverbial ‘Joneses’, trying to make their life look as if it’s more than it is.

I’m learning to own my journey even though it’s not a ‘glamourous’ one. I actually like my life, it’s not fully how I want it to be, but for where I’m coming from, it’s going super well!!

  1. People can change

I know there’s a common saying that get’s thrown around, “A leopard never changes his spots” and “People don’t change” Hoowwvvevveerr!! I again beg to differ.

I am proof that those statements are incorrect. I am not the same person I was 10 years ago and I’m sure if you looked you’ll find you aren’t either. The statement is true for those who chose to remain the same, but some chose to change.

  1. Love is the strongest force in the universe

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear” – Martin Luther King J.R

“Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place” – Zora Neale Hurston

Cheeky Plug – The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy has a very powerful example of this in how the boy and mole meet the Fox. Check it out.If you have true love, you can get through anything in life.

Love is tested and is strengthen in the best and worst of time.

  1. Don’t settle

That goes for the type of person you want to be, job you want, the type of house you want to live in, the type of person you want to be with.

Life is too short to settle for less than you want or deserve. Take a chance on yourself. You’re worth it. Shoot for the stars, you may just land in outer space.

  1. Always be Grateful

I am a very very big fan and advocate of living a life of gratitude. I try my best to practice this several times pe day. It feels great!

If I’m in a hard situation, I try to find the silver lining. Gratitude helps to refocus the mind on the positive instead of the negative.

  1. Self- Mastery is key to success

Self-control is strength. Calmness is mastery. You have to get to a point where your mood doesn’t shift based on the insignificant actions of someone else. Don’t allow others to control the direction of your life. Don’t allow your emotions to overpower your intelligence.– Morgan Freeman

That last line was like a punch in the gut. I have nothing else to say here lol

  1. What would life be without music – DRY!

Music honestly is one of the greatest things ever invented. A song has a mysterious way of saying what I find hard to communicate with my own words. The funny thing is, songs are just words combined with sounds.

There’s nothing as sweet as a summer banger blasting out the window while having a karaoke session riding down the motorway or sitting in traffic.

When I find a real tune, that repeat option is my best friend. I’m really feeling Smile by Eugene Kiing right now.

  1. Life is for living

The Pixar movie ‘Soul’ is a great example of this. We can spend our whole life looking for our ‘purpose’ and let life pass us by. I’m not saying don’t chase your dreams and doing the things that make the world a better place.

What I am saying is, while you’re doing that, smell the roses, take notice of the morning sunrise, really take time to feel joy running through your system, listen to your own laughter and indulge in the gloriousness that is life.

That is all for now. Thank you for sticking with me and reading this far, gold star for you ⭐

Let me know in the comments if there were any points that made you snap your fingers or chuckle a bit. Did 28 punch you in the gut too?
